Excursion to the town of Miory
On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of liberation from fascist invaders, the employees and staff of the department visited the Miory Historical and Ethnographic Museum. There, they familiarized themselves with several exhibits, each located in separate halls: archaeology, history, weaponry, printed publications, phaleristics, photo documents, and documents.
The most significant hall this year is dedicated to the Great Patriotic War. Museum guides spoke about the establishment of the ghetto in the city and the cruel treatment of civilians by the fascists. They also visited the Church of the Ascension of the Virgin Mary, which was erected in 1907 from red brick in the Neo-Gothic style, designed by architect Antoni Filippovich-Dubovik, funded by Reverend Józef Borodicz and donations from local parishioners. On both sides of the main facade, there are two tall towers with spires. The church walls are reinforced with massive stepped buttresses. The facades are decorated with rosettes and narrow lancet niches. All attendees left in good spirits and with an expanded outlook.
