May 18 - Museum Day
May 18 is celebrated in Belarus as the International Museum Day. This holiday was established by the XI General Conference of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) held in 1977.
By collecting and preserving monuments of material and spiritual culture, museums carry out extensive scientific, educational, and upbringing work. The staff of the Verkhnedvinsk branch of the security service also visited the Verkhnedvinsk Historical and Local Lore Museum, where they embarked on a fascinating journey through the "Piers" of their native region's history. From the sources of the Drissa River (Drysa), which gave the town its original name, to the wide banks of the Western Dvina, from the first settlements to the present day: they delved into the chronicle of the Verkhnedvinsk region, painstakingly gathered and carefully preserved.
