Raid on water bodies
On February 21, representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations organized a preventive raid to prevent accidents and loss of life on water bodies. A correspondent of the district newspaper and the chairman of the Verkhnedvinsk district organization of the Belarusian Voluntary Society for the Rescue of Persons on Water (OSVOD), Yury Vashkevich, were invited to participate in the raid.
Due to the recent unstable ambient temperature, there has been an increase in cases of citizens falling through the ice on water bodies of the republic as a result of the destruction of the ice cover.
For reference: since the beginning of the ice formation period on the water bodies of the republic, 35 people have drowned under various circumstances, including one child; 16 people were rescued by employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, OSVOD, and other citizens.
The preventive raid was conducted on the bank of the Western Dvina River and an artificial reservoir on Moskovskogo Street (Geyzhenovo district).
On the bank of the Western Dvina River near the central park, two fishermen were spotted on the ice near an ice hole. Ice drift had already been noted on the river. Upon seeing the raid group from a distance, they quickly gathered their fishing gear and left the bank before the preventive group could reach their previous location. Unfortunately, it was not possible to have an explanatory conversation with these citizens.
During the raid on the artificial reservoir, no citizens were found present (fishing). Despite this, a preventive conversation was held with six citizens who were near the water bodies.
“It is gratifying that most of the citizens we met are well-informed about safety rules on winter water bodies. Especially about the rules of safe fishing,” noted Kristina Domasevich, an inspector of the Verkhnedvinsk Regional Department of Emergency Situations.
In addition to raids, the aforementioned organizations conduct additional preventive work with children and adults on the rules of safe behavior on the ice, with particular attention paid to the need for fishermen to go out on the ice in life jackets.
