Fire Hazard Period: How to Protect Yourself and Your Property

Spring is a time not only for the blossoming of nature but also for increased fire hazard. Why is the fire hazard period so dangerous?

Dry vegetation: Grass, fallen leaves, coniferous litter – all this becomes easily flammable fuel at the slightest spark.

Strong wind: Wind instantly fans the flames, contributes to the rapid spread of fire, and makes its extinguishment extremely difficult.

Human factor: Unfortunately, most fires are caused by human negligence. Careless handling of fire, burning dry grass, campfires left unattended – all this can have catastrophic consequences.

Basic fire safety rules to be observed:

1. On the territory of settlements and dacha plots:

Never throw unextinguished cigarettes and matches. Make sure they are completely extinguished.

Do not burn garbage and dry grass on the plot and near buildings. Use special containers or arrange for removal for garbage disposal.

Clear the adjacent territory of dry herbaceous vegetation, flammable materials, and debris. The distance to buildings must be safe.

It is forbidden to create dumps of combustible waste.

When using grills and barbecues, strictly observe fire safety rules. The area for their installation must be cleared of flammable materials, and the cooking process itself must be under your constant supervision.

Keep primary fire extinguishing means (fire extinguishers, buckets of water, sand, shovels) in good working order and in an accessible location.

2. In the forest and in nature:

It is strictly FORBIDDEN to make campfires during the fire hazard period. Exceptions are specially equipped places where there are appropriate permits and fire safety measures.

Even if a campfire is permitted, do not leave it unattended. Before leaving, thoroughly douse it with water and make sure the embers are completely extinguished.

Do not throw burning matches, cigarette butts, bottles, or glass in the forest. Glass shards can act like a lens and cause ignition.

Do not drive cars or motorcycles into forests during dry weather. Sparks from the exhaust can easily cause a fire.

Do not use pyrotechnic devices.

3. If a fire is detected:

Immediately report the fire to the fire department by calling "101" or "112". Clearly state the address, location of the fire, your last name, and phone number.

If possible, take measures to extinguish the fire with primary means.

If your life and health are threatened, leave the danger zone.
