In 2023, fire claimed the lives of 9 children, two of whom were natives of the Vitebsk region
On April 15, 2023, rescuers in Orsha received a report of a fire in an apartment on Zadneprovskaya Street in the city of Orsha. During the reconnaissance, the smell of smoke was present in the entrance hall. The building was inhabited by two sisters born in 1995 and 1998, and two children of the elder sister born in 2015 and 2017.
During the firefighting operations, employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations found a woman born in 1995 and her son born in 2017 in an unconscious state in the apartment. After resuscitation measures by the ambulance crew, their deaths were confirmed. There were two possible causes for the fire: the mother smoking while intoxicated or the deceased boy playing with fire.
A terrible tragedy occurred when the mother and child were visiting their grandparents. The incident happened on December 25, 2023.
Upon inspecting the apartment, rescuers found a child born in 2018 and his mother born in 1982 in an unconscious state in one of the rooms. Then, in the adjacent room, two more people were found – the owner of the apartment born in 1961 and his wife born in 1964. All rescued individuals were handed over to medical personnel by the Ministry of Emergency Situations employees, who confirmed the deaths of the four citizens. The cause of the fire incident is being determined by specialists.
Where and how do children spend their leisure time, who are their friends, what games do they enjoy? To avoid tragedy, all these issues should be the subject of constant adult attention. Tell children that life is the most precious thing. Therefore, in case of a fire, a child needs to: leave the dangerous premises as quickly as possible and notify adults about what happened. And, of course, memorize the emergency service phone numbers with the children. Adults should also understand that careless handling of fire can lead to tragedy.
