The warm season is coming to an end, but the barbecue season continues.

However, when leaving after a pleasant time in nature, some people leave behind mountains of garbage, broken glass, and plastic bottles. Vacationers forget to extinguish fires and throw cigarette butts into the grass. Meanwhile, a gust of wind can spread fire over long distances, destroying everything in its path.

For those who love to relax in nature, it is worth reminding:

  • set up a brazier or grill at a safe distance from buildings. When lighting a fire, under no circumstances use flammable liquids.
  • in the forest, it is forbidden to light fires in dense thickets and young coniferous stands, under low-hanging tree crowns, and on peatlands.
  • do not leave unextinguished fires, matches, cigarette butts, or glass bottles in recreation areas (in the sun, they act like magnifying glasses, focusing sunlight and igniting grass and moss); extinguish the burning areas until smoldering completely stops.
  • do not pass by burning grass; if you cannot extinguish the fire yourself, report the fires to the MES duty service by calling 101 and 112.

Algorithm for extinguishing dry vegetation:

A grass fire that is just starting can be extinguished on your own by covering the edges of the fire with soil or sand. Bundles of twigs or branches from deciduous trees, dense fabric, or wet clothing are also suitable for extinguishing. Strike the edge of the fire with sweeping blows from the side towards the center of the fire, as if sweeping away the flames; turn the branches or fabric after each blow so that they cool down and do not catch fire. After extinguishing the fire, do not leave until you are sure that the fire will not reignite.

Have a safe outdoor recreation!
