Child Safety During the Summer Period

The long-awaited summer has arrived – a time of carefree joy for children and continued responsibility for adults.

Protecting the life and health of children is a paramount task for both the state and every parent.

Unfortunately, cases of child fatalities from external causes, such as fires, drownings, traffic accidents, and falls from heights, continue to be registered in the country. These incidents are often caused by the carelessness of parents who leave their children unsupervised.

Therefore, the issue of preventing child injuries and fatalities from external causes is particularly acute.

Despite the fact that relevant state bodies are taking necessary measures to ensure the safety of minors, the primary responsibility for children's safety lies with their legal representatives. It is essential for them to teach children basic safety rules from an early age, including behavior on roads, near bodies of water and rivers, and fire safety.

Children of preschool and early school age should not be left unattended. Matches and lighters, flammable materials, medications, and household chemicals should be stored in places inaccessible to children.

During the summer period, drowning is the most frequent cause of child mortality.

Water recreation poses certain dangers. While adults primarily drown due to their own negligence, the death of children is typically attributable to adult negligence.

When engaging in water activities, it is imperative to observe safety rules and precautions. Water does not tolerate recklessness, so it is crucial to always monitor your child's whereabouts.

Another point that warrants attention is barrels and bathtubs filled with water, artificial ponds, and backyard swimming pools. Small children are of particular concern in these situations. It only takes a few minutes for a preschooler to drown after falling into water. A small child can drown in as little as a five-centimeter depth of water.

Adherence to elementary safety rules will help preserve the lives and health of children.
