On the consideration of a criminal case under Part 1 of Article 139 of the Criminal Code - murder
Killed an acquaintance
The Prosecutor's Office of the Verkhnedvinsk district supported the state prosecution in the criminal case against a 43-year-old resident of Novopolotsk city – he is accused of murder.
During the court investigation, it was established that in November 2025, the man was visiting his 42-year-old acquaintance who lived in the Verkhnedvinsk district. They were drinking alcohol together for several days. During another feast, a conflict arose between the men, and the accused inflicted several stab wounds on the homeowner. The victim died at the scene as a result of the injuries sustained. Death occurred due to four penetrating stab-and-slash wounds with the development of hemorrhagic shock.
The accused did not call an ambulance for his acquaintance, continued to drink alcohol, then fell asleep and slept for about a day in the dwelling with the deceased. Upon waking up, the man wiped his fingerprints from the knife, gathered his belongings, and left for Novopolotsk city, where he was subsequently detained by police officers.
In court, the accused confessed to the committed act and expressed sincere remorse. He explained that he did indeed stab his acquaintance, but did not intend to kill him, and committed the crime due to alcohol consumption.
Taking into account the evidence presented by the state prosecutor, the Verkhnedvinsk District Court rendered a guilty verdict. Based on Part 1 of Article 139 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus, the man was sentenced to 9 years of imprisonment with serving the sentence in a strict-regime correctional colony.
The court's verdict has not yet entered into legal force and may be appealed in appellate order.
