Illegally possessed weapons and ammunition
The Prosecutor's Office of the Verkhnedvinsk district supported the state prosecution in a criminal case against a 67-year-old local resident; he is charged with illegal acquisition, possession, and carrying of firearms and ammunition.
According to the case materials, the man discovered weapons and ammunition in his father's house after his death. As required by law, he did not surrender these items to the internal affairs bodies and kept them at his place of residence. The accused did not have the appropriate permit for the acquisition, carrying, and possession of weapons and ammunition.
For reference: according to Part 1 of Article 14 of the Law of the Republic of Belarus of November 13, 2001 No. 61-Z "On Weapons," citizens who permanently reside in the Republic of Belarus and have reached the age of 18 have the right to acquire civilian weapons and ammunition after obtaining a permit from the internal affairs bodies for the acquisition of a specific type and model of weapon.
During the inspection of the scene of the incident, law enforcement officers discovered and seized at the pensioner's place of residence: one rifle and over three hundred rounds of ammunition, which are serviceable ammunition for weapons.
In court, the accused fully admitted his guilt and sincerely repented of his actions.
Taking into account the evidence presented by the state prosecutor, the Verkhnedvinsk District Court rendered a guilty verdict. Based on Part 2 of Article 295 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus, the man was sentenced to restriction of liberty for a term of 3 years without being sent to an open-type correctional institution.
The court's verdict has not yet entered into legal force and may be appealed.
