Speech on the topic of genocide

On May 29, 2023, the District Prosecutor's Office gave a presentation in the assembly hall of the Verkhnedvinsk branch of Vitebsk OBLPO for convicted individuals registered with the Verkhnedvinsk District Department of Internal Affairs' criminal-executive inspection. The presentation focused on the genocide of the population of Belarus during the Great Patriotic War and the post-war period.

Ten individuals from the aforementioned category attended this event, along with Ms. E.A. Azarevich, a representative of the Verkhnedvinsk District Department of Internal Affairs' criminal-executive inspection.

The representative of the District Prosecutor's Office informed the event participants about the results of the investigation into the criminal case concerning the genocide of the Belarusian people during the Great Patriotic War, and about the punitive measures carried out in the territories of the then Osvy and Drissa districts.

Additionally, Mr. M.V. Lavdansky, Deputy Prosecutor of the Verkhnedvinsk District, explained to those present the criminal liability for publicly denying the genocide of the Belarusian people.

During the event, participants asked questions on the topics discussed, and received answers.

Upon conclusion of the presentation, the Deputy Prosecutor of the District, together with the representative of the Verkhnedvinsk District Department of Internal Affairs' criminal-executive inspection, addressed the issue of compliance with criminal-executive legislation during the serving of specific types of punishment. Some convicted individuals asked the prosecutor's office employee questions regarding the procedure and conditions for serving their sentences, to which they received comprehensive answers.

The organization of such events should contribute to raising the level of legal culture and legal awareness of citizens.
