Housing for large families should be evenly distributed throughout the country, not just in Minsk and other major cities. This was stated by the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko on October 23 at a meeting with the leadership of the Council of Ministers, according to a BELTA correspondent. The President noted that housing construction for military personnel and large families is among the state's priorities and will remain the number one issue in the future. Much is already being done to support large families, including assistance with housing construction and the payment of family capital. However, regarding the construction of housing, the head of state was critical of the locations for houses for large families. "We started building housing in Minsk, in convenient locations, drawing labor to the cities. What are we doing?" he said. "Why are we drawing large families to Minsk? They should live all over the country, like everyone else. Even distribution of manpower, labor, as it was in Soviet times."
In addition, outside of major cities, there is an opportunity to build not only apartments but also houses with adjacent plots of land where one can grow something. "We need to get our hands dirty and do something with our own hands. We have forgotten about this, and started building housing for large families in Minsk and regional centers," Alexander Lukashenko remarked. The President also emphasized that when providing assistance, the approach should be targeted, and one cannot act in a generalized manner. "Before providing a person with housing, a house or an apartment, you need to figure out who we are giving housing to with state support, what kind of large families they are. You need to understand the details," the head of state pointed out.
