Lukashenko said what needs to be done for the EAEU to be an effective structure, not a platform for theoretical discussions
For the EAEU to be a functioning and effective structure, rather than a platform for theoretical discussions, its development pace must be intense and lead to concrete common results. This was stated by President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko on June 27 at a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in a narrow format, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.
"The chairmanship of the Republic of Belarus in the EAEU bodies is being implemented in a special year in terms of further prospects for the development of our association," the President emphasized. He noted that the summit agenda includes a number of issues requiring concrete decisions at the highest level. "Firstly, we are completing the implementation of the strategic directions for the development of Eurasian economic integration until 2025," Alexander Lukashenko explained. "Secondly, this year a roadmap for joint actions for the next period should be adopted – already for the implementation of the declaration on further development of economic processes in our union." The relevant action plan will be approved at the EAEU Commission level, and then submitted to the Supreme Council and considered at a meeting in December.
"If we want our union to be a functioning and effective structure, rather than a platform for theoretical discussions (although that is also not bad), the pace of our union's development for the next five-year period must be intense, and for each direction, a clear algorithm of actions is needed, leading to a concrete common result," the President stressed.
The head of state noted that the inclusion of international cooperation topics on the summit agenda is becoming a good tradition. One of the issues at the current EAEU meeting concerns the implementation of the main directions of the union's international activities for 2024.
