Lukashenko at "Belarusfilm" will get acquainted with the prospects for the development of "the most important of the arts" in Belarus
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko will visit the national film studio "Belarusfilm" to familiarize himself with the development prospects of the domestic film industry, BelTA reports.
The head of state will be briefed on the current state of affairs at the film studio, its structure and material base, and the conditions for shooting television projects. It is also expected that Alexander Lukashenko will hold a meeting on the development of national cinema.
As BelTA informed, in March of this year, Alexander Lukashenko approved the appointment of Dmitry Semenov as General Director of "Belarusfilm". And in December 2024, when appointing Ruslan Chernetsky as Minister of Culture, he called the situation in Belarusian cinema a disgrace. "Of all the arts, cinema is the most important for us. And what is happening in our cinema is simply a disgrace. It is unacceptable. We have regressed, we look worse than during the Soviet period when serious attention was paid to cinema. I'm not saying we're not interested in it, but for some reason everyone wants to make money, but in the end they don't want to agree that they need to make a good film, a good picture. Pay the most serious attention to this," the head of state instructed at the time.
