Lukashenko expressed condolences on the death of Khamtai Siphandon, the fourth President of Laos
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, on behalf of the Belarusian people and himself, expressed condolences to the President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic Thongloun Sisoulith, as well as to the family and friends, and all Lao people in connection with the death of the fourth President of this country, Khamtai Siphandon, BELTA was informed by the press service of the Belarusian leader.
"A remarkable political, party, and military figure has passed away," the head of state noted. "He played a significant role in the struggle of the Lao people for independence, in the formation of a modern, independent Laos, and in enhancing its international authority."
"We will remember Khamtai Siphandon as the leader of a friendly state who headed the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and the government of Laos when diplomatic relations were established between our countries. During his presidency, the first direct contacts between Minsk and Vientiane actually began," Alexander Lukashenko emphasized.
