Lukashenko: Raising the status of the executive committee chairman is equivalent to increasing responsibility for the city or district
Increasing the status of the executive committee chairman is equivalent to a manifold increase in their responsibility for the development of the city or district. This was stated by President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko on February 6 at a meeting on improving the legal regulation of the status of the basic level executive committee chairman, according to a BELTA correspondent.
"We must understand that increasing the status (and we are talking about this) of basic level executive committee chairmen is equivalent to a manifold increase in responsibility for the development of the city and district," said Alexander Lukashenko.

The President has repeatedly stated the need to improve the level of executive discipline in the country. According to the head of state, he sees shortcomings in this regard, and serious shortcomings at that.
"And I warn everyone that if we do not do this, it will be very difficult for us not only this year, but also in the five-year period, to achieve what we have set for ourselves. Therefore, the level of executive discipline must be at the appropriate height. But at the same time, understanding that without district and city executive committee chairmen, we will not solve a single problem, the requirements for them will increase. But if we increase the requirements for them, then we must also grant powers so that they can work. Everything is very simple and clear. This is why the proposal to increase the role of district and city executive committee chairmen appeared. These proposals should expand the powers of basic level executive committees and their chairmen in order to significantly improve, first of all, the economy and the living standards of people in the respective territory," emphasized Alexander Lukashenko.
