Lukashenko pointed to the government's colossal shortcomings in supporting the scientific sphere
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, at a meeting with a working group analyzing the activities of the National Academy of Sciences, pointed to a colossal oversight by the government in supporting the scientific sphere, BELTA correspondent reports.
The Head of State drew attention to the shortcomings in the NAS activities, but at the same time emphasized that the identified problems relate not only to the Academy of Sciences but also to the State Committee on Science and Technology (SCST) and sectoral ministries. "Perhaps even primarily to them," said Alexander Lukashenko. "Where is the coordinating and managing role of the SCST? Yet, this is its main function, for which it was created."
According to the President, the analysis of scientific programs shows that ministries do not actually participate in them. They are practically absent among the customers. "And this is a colossal oversight by the government. Don't industries have a demand for scientific developments?" the Head of State asked rhetorically. "In the government, Roman Alexandrovich (Golovchenko, Prime Minister. - BELTA note), they work as if for the moment: day to evening – and that's it. And then what? And the prospect? It's impossible without science."
