Lukashenko: Belarus, despite everything, retains invaluable experience of contacts with Germany

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko congratulated the people of the Federal Republic of Germany on their national holiday – German Unity Day. BELTA was informed about this by the press service of the Belarusian leader.

"Belarusians know the true meaning of this concept very well. For almost two decades, our people were divided by artificial borders, which did not contribute to normal relations, the development of the country, and offered no prospects," the congratulatory message reads. "Then World War II, which claimed every third inhabitant, caused even greater damage. Neither Belarusians nor Germans should forget these terrible facts."

The Head of State emphasized: "We often hear that the course of history cannot be altered. But we are not just witnesses to current events; we influence them and can change a negative development scenario."

Alexander Lukashenko noted that the current generation of Belarusians and Germans have much in common and understand each other much better than a hundred years ago. "Valuable experience of contacts in various fields has been accumulated. Minsk carefully preserves it despite everything. The doors of our home are always open to guests from Germany and other countries, to all people of goodwill who come to us with a pure heart and wish well," the Belarusian leader noted. "I believe that very soon, concord and mutual understanding will be added to the value of unity, which was so hard-won for us. Welcome to Belarus!"
