Lukashenko: We will raise engineering and working professions to the highest level

Engineering and blue-collar professions in Belarus will be elevated to the highest level. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko stated this on September 2, answering questions during the event "Open Microphone with the President" with students of higher education institutions of the Vitebsk region, a BELTA correspondent reports.

Participants of the event asked the head of state what, in his opinion, needs to be done to increase the interest of youth in engineering and make it as prestigious as IT specialties.

Alexander Lukashenko replied that a comprehensive set of measures is needed, including, among other things, decent wages and an increase in the authority of engineers in society. For example, many can now call themselves "IT specialists" to some extent, because all young people know how to use gadgets and computers.

"Everyone is an IT specialist, but there are few engineers, a shortage. Hence the prestige," Alexander Lukashenko noted.

"This is the most important profession for a family - an engineer," the President added, explaining that people with the relevant knowledge and skills can perform many household tasks on their own.

"We have deviated somewhat in this regard, we have a imbalance. We will elevate engineering and blue-collar professions to the highest level. Because the state needs this, this is a strategy," the President emphasized. "If we don't deal with this now, then tomorrow there will be no time for gadgets. Everything today comes from farmers and engineers in agriculture and industry."
