Lukashenko asks trade unions to actively join the upcoming harvest campaign in the countryside

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has called on trade unions to actively engage in the upcoming harvest campaign in rural areas. He made this statement while receiving a report from the Chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus, Yuri Senko, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.

"The harvest campaign has practically begun. Today I listened to the report from the Governor of the Brest region. He has selectively started harvesting winter barley. Trade unions have always been involved in this process, providing appropriate assistance and support. I would ask you to ensure that this is primarily assistance, support, and participation from the trade unions in this work, rather than some kind of control and oversight functions. We have enough controllers," the head of state said.

In this regard, Alexander Lukashenko recalled his previous work in the agricultural sector: "Trade unions, especially in agriculture, have always been my right hand. And together we organized meals and services (for machinery. - BELTA note) during the harvest campaign."

The President also instructed to keep a close eye on salary payments to ensure that workers have no grounds for complaint.

In a conversation with journalists, Yuri Senko noted that trade union workers are constantly present and working at agricultural sites. Great attention is paid to this area during the harvest season. Prevention of occupational injuries is carried out, and the availability of personal protective equipment is monitored. "Unfortunately, very recently there was a case of death of one of the enterprise's workers precisely due to substandard personal protective equipment. Here we must all draw very clear and strict conclusions regarding the continuation of work and control over this situation. Technical and legal inspectors of trade unions will constantly monitor this issue," said the Chairman of the FTPB.
