Lukashenko at the church on Easter: if time has chosen us, let's preserve peace and tranquility

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, visiting a church in Orsha on the occasion of Easter, called for preserving peace and tranquility in the country, a BELTA correspondent reports.

"The main thing is peace. This is already my problem," the Belarusian leader emphasized. "But since time has chosen us, there's no escaping it – we must preserve peace and tranquility on our land. This is the greatest task for our generation."

The head of state noted that this year the great bright religious holiday of Easter fell on the eve of a great secular holiday – Victory Day. Moreover, the current year is special for Belarus in connection with the 80th anniversary of the country's liberation from Nazi invaders.

"For us, it is special, as for no other nation, because during those years of fascist aggression, Belarus did not exist. It was wiped off the face of the earth. Moreover, from the western to the eastern borders. Everything was destroyed. People survived only because our nature, our forests, hid them, sheltered them," Alexander Lukashenko said. "Can we forget these efforts, these heroic feats of our people? We cannot do that!"

The President also touched upon the topic of internal political processes taking place in Belarus. The current time is difficult because of the generational shift. "And it is very important for us not to break the traditions that we have created together. So that our children do not reject everything that we have created. Not because we are clinging to the old and holding onto it, and that this old is necessarily needed by children. But because whoever broke the thread of generations inevitably gave rise to at least turmoil. At most – war," the Belarusian leader noted.

"What saved us is that we stood on the shoulders of the previous generation. We absorbed everything that our fathers and grandfathers created. That's why we endured. When this was broken in some state – there was always turmoil. And there are always many who want to take advantage of this. Therefore, I would very much like us to preserve all the best that has been created on our land during this difficult process of generational change," the head of state added. Addressing the residents of Orsha, the President noted that they have all the conditions for life – from fertile soil to a large number of enterprises.

"So many enterprises have been built in and around Orsha that today there is a shortage of labor. I have already said that we will not just think, but take large-scale actions to provide these enterprises with labor, i.e., there is a place to work. And there is an opportunity to earn for oneself and one's children," said Alexander Lukashenko.

The President, as is tradition, lit a candle. He presented the Holy Assumption Church with the icon "The Resurrection of Christ" as a gift. On Easter, the Head of State was presented with an icon of Saint Alexander Nevsky, the blessed prince.
