Lukashenko signed a decree on the status of a Belarusian cosmonaut

Head of State Alexander Lukashenko signed Decree No. 100 "On the Status of a Belarusian Cosmonaut" on March 19, establishing the rights and obligations of a cosmonaut of the Republic of Belarus. The document was adopted to define the legal status of cosmonauts and persons equated to them, taking into account the implementation of the first space flight project in the sovereign history of Belarus. BELTA was informed about this by the Press Service of the President.

It is established that the status of a cosmonaut is granted to a citizen of the Republic of Belarus who has completed a space flight, as well as to their backup.

In order to recognize the cosmonaut's merits to the Motherland, the decree provides for a number of benefits and preferences, including the retention of their position, medical care at the Republican Clinical Medical Center, pension provision, and state support for housing construction.

At the same time, it is determined that a cosmonaut must live up to their high title, possess a firm civic stance, take an active part in the socio-political life of the country, and worthily represent Belarus in the international arena.

The implementation of the decree will contribute to consolidating the positive image of Belarus as a high-tech state, and to promoting the country's knowledge and competencies in the field of peaceful space exploration.
