Lukashenko: Belarus remembers the veterans of Afghanistan who became a barrier to international terrorism

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko sent a message to the internationalist soldiers, veterans of the war in Afghanistan. This was reported to BELTA by the press service of the Head of State.

In Belarus, February 15 is celebrated as the Day of Remembrance of Internationalist Soldiers. "35 years have passed since the withdrawal of the Soviet Army troops from the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan, but the hearts of Belarusians cherish the memory of compatriots who became an unyielding barrier to international terrorism," the message reads. "Showing courage and resilience, you defended the southern borders of your country, fought for a dignified future for the Afghan people."

 
The Head of State noted that Belarus shares the bitterness of loss of the families of fallen soldiers and officers, and bows its head to the mothers who raised true patriots.
 
"Returning from the war, you continued to serve the Fatherland: you instill in the younger generation love and respect for the Motherland, stand guard over the foundations of the state system, and work for the benefit of society. Having gone through difficult trials, you remain a reliable shield protecting native Belarus from modern threats," Alexander Lukashenko emphasized.
