President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko would like to see an active role of the Ministry of Economy. He stated this while appointing Yuri Chebotar to the post of minister, a BELTA correspondent reports.

"Regarding the Ministry of Economy, I will say frankly, publicly: this year is special for us. Therefore, we will speak honestly and frankly, so that in a year, before the next presidential elections, we are not reproached for having dodged, lied, and that our government is generally useless, as they are already starting to promote. Therefore, this year will be special. And at the core of everything, as I often say, lies the economy," said the head of state. "I would like to see an active role of the Ministry of Economy. You propose plans for our economy - tactical and strategic. Tactical - for a year, strategic - for a five-year period. You will often have to speak at the All-Belarusian People's Congress, justifying certain directions of the government's activities as a whole and the country's prospects. Therefore, you must be prepared for this."

"It will not be easy. It will be hard, especially this year. Not because the current President wants to remain President. Not because someone wants something. We simply have to prove to the people once again that we have worked honestly and sincerely all these years. And if we succeed, we will convince people that there will be no one better than us. I am saying this in plain text at the beginning of the year. And your ministry should play a significant role here," emphasized the Belarusian leader.

Alexander Lukashenko stressed that the Ministry of Economy holds a special place in the government. The department plans, controls, and largely directs the country's economic development. "In this regard, I would like to see the Ministry of Economy. I will say frankly, I have not noticed it often during the year," the President stated. "You understand that I am not entirely satisfied with the work of the Ministry of Economy. And this dissatisfaction also falls on you. You are the First Deputy Minister of Economy (this post Yuri Chebotar held before his current appointment as minister. - BELTA's note). But I really hope that the situation will change. As the first deputy, you could do a lot, but not everything. I understand this."

Alexander Lukashenko noted that after studying all the information on the candidacy of the new minister, he came to the conclusion that Yuri Chebotar can organize the work of the Ministry of Economy. "At least you have everything for this. But the basis of your work should be exclusively the truth. No embellishment. Sooner or later I will notice it. I have enough leverage for this. Therefore, do not lie under any circumstances. Everything as it is. Because if you provide me with, to put it mildly, inaccurate information, then there will be incorrect management decisions," the President noted.
