Lukashenko signed comprehensive amendments to the law "On the President of the Republic of Belarus"

Head of State Alexander Lukashenko signed a law that provides for a comprehensive adjustment of the Law "On the President of the Republic of Belarus" in light of the updated Constitution of the country and law enforcement practice (the last amendments were made in 2006).

BELTA was informed about this by the press service of the Belarusian leader. According to the adopted amendments, the requirements for a presidential candidate are clarified.

Thus, a citizen of the Republic of Belarus by birth, not younger than 40 years old, possessing electoral rights, permanently residing in Belarus for at least 20 years before the elections, not having (not having had) citizenship of a foreign state, a residence permit, or any other document of a foreign state granting the right to benefits and other advantages, can be elected as president. It is established that the President of Belarus heads the public service system and is a delegate of the All-Belarusian People's Congress. The powers of the head of state are specified. In particular, the President's competence to submit proposals to the All-Belarusian People's Congress for the election of chairpersons, their deputies, and judges of the Constitutional and Supreme Courts, the chairperson and members of the Central Election Commission, as well as proposals on the possibility of sending military personnel outside Belarus to participate in ensuring collective security and activities to maintain international peace and security, is enshrined. In addition, the status of the President of Belarus who has ceased to exercise his powers is determined.
