Lukashenko: trade turnover with the Moscow region will be the best in the history of cooperation this year

The trade turnover between Belarus and the Moscow region of Russia will exceed $10 billion this year, which will be the best indicator in the entire history of cooperation. This was stated by President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko at a meeting with the Governor of the Moscow region of Russia Andrey Vorobyov, according to a BELTA correspondent.

Alexander Lukashenko noted that this is Andrey Vorobyov's first visit to Belarus as governor and expressed confidence that he will visit the country again for other, not only business, reasons. The President also noted the professionalism of the region's head's team, thanks to which the Moscow region firmly holds leading positions in Russia in terms of socio-economic development.

For Belarus, the capital region of Russia is a strategic partner, the head of state emphasized. The Moscow region ranks first among the federal subjects in terms of trade volume. "These are colossal volumes of our foreign economic trade," the President noted. Thus, in 10 months of 2023, the trade turnover increased by almost a quarter and exceeded $9 billion. "This is a significant achievement, considering the high base and substantial growth last year (about 25% - BELTA note)," the Belarusian leader assessed. "According to forecasts, this year it will be significantly higher than $10 billion. The best indicator in the entire history of cooperation between Belarus and your region."

Trade covers almost the entire range of goods, the main ones being household appliances, food products (butter, cheese), metal products, medicines, equipment, spare parts for it, and much more.

"This level of trade turnover is largely due to the specific situation of the Moscow region, which serves as a kind of logistics hub and a base for further supplies to other Russian regions," the President said.
