Lukashenko is taking part in the CIS summit in Bishkek
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko is taking part in the CIS summit, a BELTA correspondent reports.
The head of the Belarusian state was welcomed by President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov in the congress hall of the state residence "Ala-Archa". Before the summit, the President of Belarus held a bilateral meeting with his Uzbek counterpart Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The meeting of the Council of CIS Heads of State will traditionally be held in narrow and expanded formats. Alexander Lukashenko will present Belarus's position and proposals on the most pressing issues of cooperation within the Commonwealth.
It is expected that the leaders of the CIS countries will adopt a number of joint statements.
The issue on the agenda concerning the establishment of CIS observer and partner statuses is aimed at expanding the Commonwealth's potential and enhancing its role in the international arena.
A number of amendments to CIS legal acts are also planned, as well as discussions on topical issues across a wide range of subjects.
On the eve of the summit, the Council of CIS Foreign Ministers (CFM) was held in Bishkek. Belarusian Foreign Minister Sergey Aleinik participated in it on behalf of Belarus.
The CFM approved four draft joint statements of the Council of CIS Heads of State. Among them is the draft Statement on the Principles of Interstate Relations in a Multipolar World. The document reflects a common viewpoint on the importance of forming a stable multipolar world order, declares the intention to promote the creation of a secure architecture of international relations to address issues of international and regional development, emphasizes the aspiration to turn the Commonwealth region into a space of peace, sustainable development and shared prosperity, and confirms the CIS's openness to broad international cooperation.
The summit on October 13 also plans to sign the Treaty on the Establishment of the International Organization for the Russian Language in the CIS, the Agreement on the Establishment of the International Center for Risk Assessment of Legalization (Laundering) of Proceeds from Crime and Financing of Terrorism, and the Agreement on the Establishment of the Coordination Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States Member States in the Field of Forensic Expertise.
The signing of the Interstate Program of Joint Measures to Combat Crime for 2024-2028 and the establishment of the medal "For Contribution to Strengthening Peace" in the Commonwealth are planned.
It is also expected that the CIS Heads of State will decide to declare Samarkand (Uzbekistan) the cultural capital of the Commonwealth in 2024.
