Belarus is in negotiations with Russia and China to attract funds for road reconstruction

Belarus is negotiating with Russia and China to attract funds for road reconstruction. This was announced by Sergey Leonchik, Head of the Road Development Department of the Main Road Administration of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, at the BELTA press center.

"We are working with Russian and Chinese partners, but so far the results are quite challenging. It should be noted that Belarus has a balanced position, and our partners from the PRC and the RF have a rather wait-and-see attitude. Today, we are working under sanctions, and it is necessary to clearly identify all risks for all parties involved in this process. The Ministry of Economy is undertaking significant work to attract funds specifically for the road sector. The Ministry of Transport has prepared applications and submitted relevant investment proposals. They are currently under review," said Sergey Leonchik.

The participation of the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) in projects for the reconstruction of Belarusian roads is also being discussed. "We are offering the maximum number of projects for which we already have design documentation and have conducted expertise. Our partners are reviewing all of this. Decisions will be made taking into account economic feasibility, as any credit funds have their own cost and interest rate. The payback period for each project must be calculated and immediately apparent. Negotiations have been ongoing throughout this year, but there are no concrete agreements yet," noted the representative of the Ministry of Transport.
