Lukashenko spoke about which people the authorities will support in the upcoming elections

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko gave a number of instructions regarding the upcoming electoral campaigns in the country while approving the appointments of new heads of the local power vertical, BelTA reports.

"I earnestly ask you and emphasize once again: there is no Communist Party, everything is in your hands (a comparison with Soviet times when party bodies at the local level played a significant role. - BelTA note). Major electoral campaigns are ahead, where the ideological component is of paramount importance. Work, think about who will represent you in parliament, the All-Belarusian People's Assembly. We are not hiding at all that we will support someone. This is natural. If we presented ourselves as so chaste now, they would simply laugh at us," the head of state said. "In no state, even the most democratic... Take, for example, the Americans who have always taught us. You see how the election campaign was and is going on there. God forbid we conduct it like that, especially by mail. And if we had conducted it like that, we would have been wiped off the face of the earth – not now, but before."

"Therefore, we have our own tasks, our own goals. Identify worthy patriotic people, professionals. And support them in the parliamentary elections and for the All-Belarusian People's Assembly. I am not hiding anything, and you have nothing to hide. But these must be professionals, worthy people. So that people, upon learning about the candidates we support, do not throw all sorts of nastiness in our faces. We have plenty of smart, talented people," Alexander Lukashenko added.
