Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, summing up the results of a meeting on improving the education system, demanded an end to any dithering and interference with the work of the Minister of Education, and urged governors to take more responsibility for solving practical issues, BelTA correspondent reports.
"The Ministry of Education must stop all this dithering. This is very important. There is a minister, there is leadership. We have determined this, as I say, track. Do not interfere with the work of the minister and the Ministry of Education," the head of state emphasized. "They are reasonable people and know how to solve certain issues in accordance with the law, legislation, and the Constitution. Let them work."
At the same time, the President warned the staff of the Ministry of Education: if someone is unhappy with the minister or the leadership, then they should look for another job. "You understand my hints and know what I'm talking about," he said.
"If we don't give him (Andrei Ivants, Minister of Education. - BelTA note) the opportunity to work... No matter who is appointed minister there, he will not be able to work, because everyone interferes with the Ministry of Education and tries to help, advise, or do something in their own way," Alexander Lukashenko added.
"Today we have finished discussing the tasks facing education. We are moving forward," the President emphasized. "This concerns the Minister of Education the least, and the governors more: you have heard how to act, so act. Without governors, we will not solve issues in healthcare or education."
The responsibility of regional leaders should primarily lie with practical matters. "The minister and the government should see from above how they are moving (in the regions. - BelTA note)," the head of state said. "Specific school issues: buses, meals, and so on - these are issues for governors and chairmen of district executive committees. Deal with them."
