Lukashenko on the situation in universities: there is no course to suppress anyone or infringe on opinions

When organizing work in universities, it is important to consider the specifics of these organizations and the people working in them. After all, these are special, scholarly people, and they should not be subjected to excessive demands or any kind of infringement. This was stated by the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, summarizing the results of a meeting at Belarusian State University, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.

"I am your colleague – a teacher, a lecturer. And I look into the audience when people speak. Someone winces, someone shakes their head, someone disagrees. I see that even in this audience, not everything is unambiguous. Well, it shouldn't be. There should be no such ambiguity," the President said. "There is no course towards crushing someone, infringing on an opinion. I often say that a schedule is put on my desk, and meetings are held practically every day. If there are not several points of view, I immediately postpone the document. There is no point in holding a meeting."

"There must be points of view. We must discuss these issues carefully. We should not pounce on each other, we should not tear each other apart. These are our people. We need to approach this carefully. In no case should we 'break each other's ribs' in this situation. And this is to our own people, not to enemies," the Belarusian leader emphasized.

Alexander Lukashenko noted that he also directs law enforcement agencies to adopt a similar approach, because even opponents should first be tried to be won over. "But you must see the enemy. The times are like that. But be very careful," he remarked.

As for the intelligentsia, the President also considers it unacceptable to "tailor" it to this or that political figure: "This should not happen in our society. No streets, no monuments, especially during their lifetime," the head of state said.
