Lukashenko on the unacceptability of cattle losses: the attitude towards a newborn calf should be like towards a child

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko demands to eradicate cases of cattle mortality on farms and to transfer calves from negligent organizations to farms where they will be properly cared for. The head of state announced this in the Berestovitsky district during a visit to a large cattle fattening and maintenance complex, according to a BELTA correspondent.

Unfortunately, the problem of high mortality remains in a number of farms.

"There should be no mortality at all. Except in exceptional cases. They must be taken away. Until they (negligent farms. - BELTA note) master the technologies. The attitude towards a newborn calf should be like that towards a child," said the head of state. "Why not take cattle from negligent farms and give them to him? He wouldn't refuse. Take away those who cannot keep calves until one month old - this must be ironclad."

He stressed that this issue needs to be resolved promptly, and Alexander Lukashenko no longer intends to discuss this topic with the leadership of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food or with governors.

On the farm, the head of state recalled his instruction to transfer the milking herd to modern dairy complexes within five years. At the same time, the President emphasized the need to create good conditions for keeping and fattening cattle.

"We need to not just get close to some unified technological process, but to define it," he said.

Continuing the topic of reconstructing dairy farms into modern dairy complexes, Alexander Lukashenko visited recently built cow sheds and a milking parlor building in "Oleksitsy". These facilities were erected in a year. According to the project, the construction cost was Br13.7 million. However, in fact, it is expected to decrease to Br12.3 million.

The main issue, which the President had previously instructed on, is to determine the optimal option in terms of both functionality and cost. Without unnecessary savings, but also without wasting extra funds.

"Otherwise, we build palaces and don't know how much they cost," said Alexander Lukashenko.

The head of state once again reminded that everything needs to be calculated precisely, as the cost currently varies significantly from region to region. For example, as the President was recently informed, the construction of a dairy complex in the Minsk region costs Br10 million.

Regarding the overall development of the dairy industry in the Grodno region, according to Governor Vladimir Karanik, the cattle population has significantly increased over the year, and milk yield per cow is growing.

A total of 15 dairy farms are planned to be commissioned in the region this year (two have already been commissioned).

"This is what needs to be done. An old farm. Install a milking parlor and two cow sheds. And adapt the rest for calves and related purposes," the President summarized.
