Lukashenko: Our country rests on the labor of rural residents

The well-being of Belarus rests on the labor of its rural residents. This was stated by the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, during a meeting with residents of the agro-town of Belovezhsky in the Kamenets district, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.

"You are, of course, commendable. I (I notice) rarely praise people, but you are commendable. Thank you very much for your work. Peasants are generally strong people in our country. I praise you not because I myself am from the peasantry. You are strong people, the country rests on you. And even in those difficult times, not a single one of you wavered or faltered. Everyone was in the fields, feeding everyone – both those who were supposed to benefit from the fruits of the peasants' labor, and those who were (mostly in Minsk) waving their hands. Therefore, you are the foundation of our country," emphasized Alexander Lukashenko.

"And I do not regret at all that at one time we adopted programs for the revival of the countryside and invested sufficient funds in agriculture. Today we feel the return: not only have we fed our people, but we also sold a decent amount of food last year," the President added. "I often meet with the President of Russia, we discuss these issues, we synchronize our work. We felt that these 'friends' from the West could cause us problems. Today, both Russia and Belarus are self-sufficient in food. Our people are fed, clothed, and shod. And this is the main thing. If this is lacking, there will never be stability in the country. And clothing, footwear, and food – that is you, the peasants. And God grant that we have such farms throughout the country."
