"Задача номер один". Лукашенко требует шире использовать семена отечественной селекции

"Task number one". Lukashenko demands wider use of domestic seeds

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko demands wider use of domestic seeds in crop cultivation. He stated this during a working trip to the Kamenets district, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.

The global directive from Alexander Lukashenko is to replace imported varieties with domestic ones. He emphasized this point while inspecting a rapeseed field.

"The number one task is to have this domestically," the President stressed. Ensuring self-sufficiency in seeds is not only import substitution but also a matter of food security.

At the same time, it is important to ensure the quality of seeds and their compliance with high standards. "So that we don't have to persuade the head of a particular farm to use domestic seeds. He should see it himself," said the head of state.

Alexander Lukashenko also touched upon this issue in his conversation with residents of the agro-town of Belovezhsky. "We have agreed that our science and breeders must work seriously. You sow quite a few varieties of foreign production – seeds. You get them from Germany and so on. I would like us to have them. Well, maybe 15%, perhaps 20% should be purchased to compare and see the difference. This must be done. But no more. Therefore, we will sort things out a bit with science and improve it," the Belarusian leader noted.

He also drew attention to the application of organic fertilizers. At OJSC "Belovezhskoye," the entire technology for this process is well-established. "You apply everything under the winter crop wedge in the autumn. This is great. We still have a lot of work to do in this direction. It is by gathering such insights, visiting districts and farms, that I identify promising directions for the development of our rural areas. But we have a good foundation, and we have something to build our successes upon," the President emphasized.

As previously reported by BELTA, during his working trip to the Kamenets district, the President also issued instructions regarding the northern regions of the country, primarily the Vitebsk region, to sow more early crops, taking into account the climatic peculiarities. This concerns winter barley, rapeseed, and a number of other crops. This allows for the completion of the harvest from the fields at an earlier date in the summer and prepares the soil for sowing winter crops.
