Lukashenko takes part in the SCO Heads of State Council

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko is taking part in the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation on July 4. The event is being held online, BELTA reports.

Currently, India presides over the SCO. It first assumed the presidency in September 2022. The theme of the current meeting is "Towards a SECURE SCO". The acronym SECURE was proposed by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the SCO summit in 2018 and stands for: Security, Economy and trade, Connectivity, Unity, Respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, and Environment. These themes have become the main agenda for the Indian presidency of the SCO.

During its presidency, India has also boosted areas such as "Digital Inclusivity", "Youth Empowerment", and "Shared Buddhist Heritage".

Currently, Belarus is on the path to acquiring full membership status in the SCO. At the summit in Samarkand in September last year, a decision was made to initiate the relevant procedure. The Belarusian side expects to complete this in the shortest possible time.
