Lukashenko congratulated Ilham Aliyev on the 100th anniversary of Heydar Aliyev's birth

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko congratulated President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on the 100th anniversary of the birth of the national leader of the Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev. This was reported to BELTA by the press service of the head of state.

"I am familiar with his words, spoken a quarter of a century ago: 'Azerbaijan is my heart. Azerbaijan is my breath. Azerbaijan is my life.' I am convinced that such a patriot, whose life's purpose was to serve the country, will always be remembered," the congratulatory message reads. "I had the opportunity to personally know the respected Heydar Aliyevich – a unique person, a great politician, the founder of the modern Azerbaijani state. I gladly learned from him political wisdom, composure, and truly strategic thinking."

The head of state emphasized that Belarus pays tribute to the memory of Ilham Aliyev's father, who stood at the origins of the formation of equal and mutually beneficial cooperation between Minsk and Baku. Alexander Lukashenko also noted the symbolism that in 2023, declared the Year of Heydar Aliyev in Azerbaijan, the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries is being worthily celebrated.

"I sincerely wish you, as a faithful successor to your father's cause, and your loved ones health, happiness, and well-being, and the friendly Azerbaijani people – peace and prosperity," the Belarusian leader added.
