We all eagerly await the New Year and Christmas holidays, decorating Christmas trees, and setting up festive illumination both inside and outside our homes to share our joy with others. However, sometimes, amidst all the pre-holiday hustle and bustle, we completely forget about safety. After all, such an integral attribute of the upcoming holidays as garlands are not only beautiful decorations but, first and foremost, electrical appliances that carry a certain threat.

To prevent unforeseen situations and ensure your own safety and the safety of your family when using garlands, you should strictly adhere to the following rules:

1. Before connecting the decorative lighting device to the power grid, carefully study its operating instructions.

2. Use only factory-made garlands for illumination.

3. Before decorating objects, homes, and Christmas trees, visually inspect the condition of the insulation and contacts, as cracked or damaged wire insulation, or uninsulated wires, can cause dangerous electric shock or fire.

4. Use garlands according to their intended purpose and design. If the device is marked "IP54," it is designed for outdoor use and is resistant to moisture and variable weather conditions, but not for immersion in water. The "IP67" marking means the device is suitable for outdoor use and is also moisture and water-resistant. Decorative lighting garlands with such markings will be the safest for decorating a house, object, or yard in winter.

5. Do not place garlands and light cords in places where they can be stepped on or on the ground, or where they may be mechanically damaged in any other way.

6. Use plugs and cords of the appropriate design to connect lighting installations.

7. Do not allow children to connect or play with garlands. As a rule, garlands arouse increased interest in children, so do everything possible to keep them away from lights, electrical appliances, and electrical cords.

 8. When leaving your house or apartment, you should disconnect switched-on decorative lighting bulbs from the electrical current.

9. To ensure the safety of the electrical network to which garlands and decorative lights placed outdoors (on building facades, trees) are connected, residual current devices (RCDs) must be used.

10. If a malfunction of the garland is detected during operation (burning smell, sparking, etc.), it must be immediately disconnected.
