The District Center of Culture and Folk Art invites you to a film screening on February 20

Euphrosyne of Polotsk is considered the patron saint and heavenly intercessor of the Belarusian land.

Euphrosyne of Polotsk was born in 1104 into the family of Prince Sviatoslav-George, the youngest son of Vseslav the Sorcerer. Unexpectedly for her family, at the age of 12, Princess Predslava secretly took monastic vows under the name Euphrosyne. Then, with the blessing of Polotsk Bishop Ilya, she settled in a cell of the Polotsk Saint Sophia Cathedral, where, in addition to prayer and spiritual reading, she engaged in copying sacred books. Through her efforts, the library of Saint Sophia Cathedral was replenished, and the Polotsk chronicle was maintained. Later, by order of Euphrosyne, the craftsman Lazar Bohsha created a unique masterpiece of ancient Belarusian applied art – a cross named after her. Saint Euphrosyne founded male and female monasteries, which became centers of enlightenment in the Principality of Polotsk. The Savior-Euphrosyne Monastery founded by her remains the spiritual heart of the Belarusian land today, the heart of Polotsk – the cradle of Belarusian statehood, a symbol of peace and unity. Pilgrims from all over the world come here, seeking salvation and wise counsel, as they once came to the first abbess.

The premiere screening of the film in Verkhnedvinsk will take place on February 20, 2025, at 5:30 PM in the auditorium of the State Cultural Institution "Verkhnedvinsk District Center of Culture and Folk Art" (Verkhnedvinsk, Leningradskaya St., 15).
