Секунда без внимания – печальный итог

A second without attention is a sad outcome

One of the main causes of child injuries and fatalities during the summer period is children falling out of windows.

Despite numerous publications in the media and social networks, the statistics are grim. Last year, 6 children died from falling out of windows, and in the first 6 months of 2024, one child has died.

From the analysis of the circumstances of these incidents, it can be concluded that toddlers aged one to 9 years are in a conditional risk zone.
And there is an explanation for this: children's curiosity and the need
to explore the surrounding world.

Adults are primarily responsible for the safety of young children; however, many parents forget that an open window can be deadly for a child.

As a rule, in most cases, children climbed onto the windowsill themselves, using various pieces of furniture as a stand, and leaning on the mosquito net, fell out of the window along with it.

In such circumstances, a one-and-a-half-year-old girl died in Minsk in May of this year; she fell out of an eleventh-floor window along with a mosquito net. The girl could not be saved and died on the spot from her injuries. It should be noted that at the time of the tragedy, the child's mother was in the same room and was distracted for literally a minute.

All such cases have one thing in common – the lack of control by adults, parents, legal representatives, and free access to windows.

The district prosecutor's office once again reminds of simple rules that will protect a child from tragedy:

- do not leave young children unattended;

- use locking devices for windows;

- move furniture away from windows so that a child cannot climb onto the windowsill independently;

- do not accustom children to playing on the windowsill;

- do not open windows fully for ventilation and remember that a mosquito net will not protect children from falling.

Strict adherence to these elementary rules will help prevent tragedy and save children's lives.
