Vitebsk customs officers seized 39 cartridges recognized as ammunition
39 cartridges seized by Vitebsk customs officers were identified as ammunition based on ballistic examination results.
Vitebsk customs officers prevented the import of 39 cartridges for firearms into the EAEU territory.
Fully aware that ammunition could not be legally transported across the border, a citizen of the Russian Federation hid them among personal belongings.
He was traveling with his wife in a PEUGEOT passenger car from France. At the "Grigorovshchina" checkpoint, through which Russian citizens were entering the EAEU territory, they declared the absence of goods subject to declaration, prohibited, or restricted for movement.
Customs officers doubted the veracity of the information obtained during the oral questioning and sent the car for customs inspection. As a result, the hiding place of the cartridges was discovered – a box with fishing tackle.
Experts from the Department of the State Committee of Forensic Examinations for the Vitebsk Region confirmed that the 39 rifle cartridges of 5.6x16R caliber are ammunition for hand-held rifled firearms and are suitable for firing.
Vitebsk Customs has initiated a criminal case against the Russian citizen, who was traveling as a passenger, in accordance with Part 1 of Article 333-1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus. The article provides for imprisonment for up to 7 years.
