It is undeniable that the main passive safety features with which a car is equipped are seat belts for the driver and all passengers. They have saved thousands of human lives.

On July 28, the Unified Road Safety Day will be held under the slogan "Fasten yourself and your passengers!" Traffic rules oblige the driver and all passengers to be fastened if seat belts are provided by the vehicle's design, including in the rear seats. At the same time, there are still some individuals who are skeptical about seat belts and, as a rule, fasten them to avoid an unpleasant encounter with a traffic police inspector.

This attitude arises solely from a lack of awareness of what can happen to car occupants during an accident. Few people consider the potential tragic consequences.
There have been enough tragic cases where drivers and their passengers ignored seat belts, even though in certain situations, they could have helped save lives and reduce the severity of injuries.
Being secured and pressed firmly against the seat by the belt, which has side support, the body is held in a "gentle grip." In case of a sudden maneuver or after a collision, a driver with a properly fastened seat belt can maintain control of the vehicle and fight the situation until the very end; nothing will dislodge them from their position.
The seat and belt keep the body in the most protected position, away from the roof, pillars, and dashboard.
Thanks to seat belts, passengers also remain in their seats and do not "fly" around the cabin.
According to statistics, for passengers and drivers who use seat belts, the probability of survival in a collision is twice as high, and in case of a rollover, it is five times higher.
The transportation of children under 5 years of age in a passenger car must be carried out with the mandatory use of child restraint systems that correspond to the child's weight and height.
Children aged 5 to 12 years must be transported using restraint systems or other devices (boosters, additional seats) that allow the child to be safely fastened with the seat belts provided by the vehicle's design. It is important to properly secure the child with the seat belt: the diagonal belt should pass over the shoulder and chest and not slip onto the neck.

Seat belts are one of the simple, inexpensive, and effective means of personal protection for drivers and passengers in traffic accidents. Nevertheless, despite the irrefutable statistical data and the simplicity of use, when it comes to fastening seat belts while driving, people, for various reasons, do not always take care of their own safety.
