Vitebsk region farmers are harvesting winter barley

During these hot July days, farmers have plenty to do. The harvest, which was sown last fall, is ready. The grain growers of JSC "Sokolovshchina" are completing the harvest of winter barley – it ripens earlier than other crops. 350 tons of the first grain have been threshed with an average yield of 28 c/ha.

For the most part, the farm manages with its own resources. However, the assistance from the "mechotriad" (mechanized detachment) of the dairy plant is also welcome. For instance, Alexander Dorozhko, a machine operator from the mechotriad, is harvesting winter barley on a powerful New Holland combine. Vladimir Zalotilo is transporting the new harvest grain. The team completed this task in six days, threshing 125 hectares.

Work is also in full swing at the grain receiving point. Mikhail Beloded and Alexander Bykov, operators of the SZSh-30 grain dryer, along with their young assistants Kirill Redkov and Ivan Murashko, are processing the grain in two shifts.
The next stage is the harvest of winter rapeseed on 180 hectares. This will begin this week. In total, the winter crop area exceeds 700 hectares, with another equal area occupied by spring crops – barley, including malting barley, oats, rapeseed, and wheat. The farm is tasked with delivering 160 tons of rapeseed, 180 tons of malting barley, and 400 tons of food-grade wheat as

Harvesting will unfold on a broad front. Grain will be threshed by combine operators Andrey Smirnov, Pavel Kovshel, Nikolay Novikov, Sergey Sobolevsky, Nikolay Bembel, and Maris Lyadzhev using the KZS-12. Vladimir Zaletilo, Eduard Gavrilov, and Roman Valitsky will operate MAZ trucks, ensuring the uninterrupted hauling of grain from the fields. Two grain drying complexes of the farm are ready to receive the harvest.
– The harvest outlook, despite the drought, is not bad, – notes the director of the agricultural enterprise Vladimir Korsun. – Of course, like everyone else, we expected more. We hope that the rains will improve the situation, and the grain will still gain weight. After all, so much effort and resources have been invested in it! Necessary care works have been carried out – top dressing and chemical weeding, all stages of agricultural technology have been observed. Chief Agronomist Alexander Efimov strictly monitors this.
Currently, the efforts of the agrarians are focused not only on harvesting but also on preparing forage grasses from the second cutting. 53% of the required silage and grain silage has been prepared from the first cutting, which amounts to 5700 tons of silage and grain silage. They are counting on corn silage: 480 hectares of corn have been sown, and it is currently gaining strength.
The agrarians do not lose hope of obtaining a harvest and getting a good price for it. Therefore, they approach their work with maximum responsibility.
