During the swimming season, 88 public recreation areas by the water will be operational in the Vitebsk region

During the swimming season, 88 public water recreation areas will be operational in the Vitebsk region, including 75 beaches.

All these zones, according to decisions of local authorities, are assigned to enterprises and organizations for improvement and equipping with changing rooms, toilets, parking lots, canopies, and information stands. Traditionally, the water areas of beaches and swimming spots are inspected by divers.

According to Alexander Myasoedov, Chairman of the regional organization of the Belarusian Rescue Society (OSVOD), there are 12 rescue stations in the Vitebsk region (two of them newly opened – in Lepel and Vorony, Vitebsk district), as well as 33 posts
(eight new ones). In total, more than 300 OSVOD employees will ensure the safe recreation of citizens. By the way, last year there were no accidents in the areas covered by rescue stations and posts.

Considering that fatalities in water occur at unguarded sites due to personal carelessness and indiscipline of citizens, OSVOD's activities are focused on conducting explanatory and preventive work among the population. Thus, since the beginning of the year, over 700 presentations have been held in work collectives and educational institutions, and more than 1,000 raids have been conducted jointly with employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

For safe recreation, it is important to exercise prudence and remember the basic rules:

– do not swim in unauthorized areas;

– do not consume alcoholic beverages on beaches, do not enter the water while intoxicated;

– do not swim beyond the boundaries of the beach water area;

– do not swim on inflatable mattresses, boards, logs, or inner tubes;

– do not jump into the water from piers, dams, dikes, and other hydraulic structures;

– parents must constantly monitor the behavior of children near water.
