The name of a famous compatriot – to the school!
Volynets Secondary School of Verkhnedvinsk District has been named after a famous countryman, geographer, and explorer of Siberia, Ivan Dementievich Chersky.
There are already four schools in Verkhnedvinsk region named after famous countrymen.
This is not a fashionable trend, but a careful attitude to the historical past, introducing youth to the study of the history and culture of their country, and forming moral guidelines based on the lives of specific people.
As part of the festive event, a museum exhibition "Our Countryman - Our Pride" dedicated to the life of I.D. Chersky was opened at the school.
Alexey Yarotov, Chairman of the Belarusian Geographical Society, spoke about interesting and little-known facts from the life of Ivan Dementievich.
Irina Kozel, Chairperson of the District Council of Deputies, congratulated everyone present on this significant event.
Guests of the celebration wished the school staff to honorably bear the name of their famous countryman.
