April 11 - International Day of Liberation of Prisoners of Nazi Concentration Camps

The International Day of the Liberation of the Nazi Concentration Camp Prisoners is established in memory of the international uprising of the prisoners of the Buchenwald concentration camp, which took place on April 11, 1945.

During the Nazi occupation, nearly 400,000 residents of Belarus were taken to Germany for forced labor.
On the territory of Belarus, the Nazis established about 250 camps for Soviet prisoners of war and 350 camps, prisons, and other places of forced detention for the civilian population.
In March 1944, about 50,000 elderly people, children, women, disabled individuals, and people suffering from typhus were driven into the death camps organized by the Nazis near the settlements of Ozarychi, Podsinnik, and Dert.
During World War II, approximately 18 million people from all European countries were incarcerated in the Buchenwald concentration camp by the Nazis, and 11 million of them perished.
