Issues of creating an effective system of assistance for children and adolescents were discussed in Vitebsk

Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Alexander Subbotin discussed with the UNICEF Representative in Belarus Rustam Khaydarov the areas of activity in joint work on further creating an effective system of assistance for children and adolescents.

– Children are the most valuable asset of every nation, every country, – Alexander Subbotin noted during the meeting. – Therefore, maximum attention, protection, and their development are always paramount. It is also relevant that our concern is to ensure equal access for all of them to education, clubs, and associations where they can develop their abilities. In this regard, our goals are perfectly aligned, and I believe that together we will achieve many times more than each of us individually.

UNICEF representatives visited the Kirovo Secondary School and the Vitebsk Regional Center for Correctional and Developmental Education and Rehabilitation, which has been operating in Vitebsk for 30 years, on this day.

– One of our main projects is the deinstitutionalization program (placing children from institutional care into families). We are trying to find a family for every child, including children with special needs and disabilities. Because the family is the most complete unit of society, and it is within the family that children develop fully, – said Rustam Khaydarov. – Children with special needs require special conditions, so we also aim to train the parents of such children with the help of educators, psychologists, defectologists, and other specialists. And specialists, in turn, must have the skills and competencies to provide qualified assistance, and as a result, through joint efforts, successfully integrate such children into society.

The parties plan to strengthen successful partnerships and implement new potential joint projects.

Cooperation will help all departments – and specialists in healthcare, education, and social protection are involved in this topic – to understand common goals and objectives, coordinate work, and track results.
