In Vitebsk, additional utility services forces have been involved in snow removal

Approximately 350 people and over 50 units of special equipment are involved in Vitebsk in clearing snow that covered the city last night. This was reported by Vitebsk Housing and Communal Services Enterprise (ZhRET) and State Enterprise "Gordormost".

The regional center was hit by a cyclone, unexpected for the first spring month. Nevertheless, utility services began clearing snow early in the morning, and some even at night, with additional reserves being mobilized. They face an extended workday as snow is forecast to continue until late evening, approximately 11:00 PM.

Since 6:00 AM, all janitors employed by ZhRET, along with additional personnel, have been dispatched to clear snow. About 270 people are engaged in cleaning courtyards. Twenty units of snow-removal equipment have been assigned to assist them.

Regarding the streets of Vitebsk, as reported to a BELTA correspondent by Vitebsk State Enterprise "Gordormost," about 35 units of equipment were clearing snow during the night, with convoys moving along the roadways. The enterprise also dispatched approximately 80 people to clear sidewalks. The work is complicated by the heavy snow: it was wet last evening, and now ice has formed. Snow continues to fall, and new drifts form in cleared areas within an hour. Enterprise employees will be working in an enhanced mode today. Residents of the regional center are asked to treat the work of utility services with understanding, and motorists are urged not to overtake snow-removal convoys.

Vitebsk residents should exercise caution when crossing unregulated pedestrian crossings, especially when snow is falling heavily. The State Automobile Inspectorate reminds that in difficult weather conditions, it is harder for vehicles to stop on snow-covered or icy road surfaces, therefore it is important for pedestrians to be vigilant and not rush at crossings. Traffic police officers also recommend using reflective elements to ensure drivers can brake in time. Traffic police inspectors will assist motorists who find themselves in difficult situations on the roads. Anyone encountering an emergency situation is asked to report it by calling 102.
