In Vitebsk, employees of the Main Statistical Department of the region were honored
On the eve of the holiday – the Day of State Statistics Workers and the 105th anniversary of the establishment of the state statistics bodies of the Republic of Belarus, celebrated on August 23, the best workers in the field were honored in Vitebsk.
Statistics in Belarus originated in the mid-19th century, and the first Vitebsk Provincial Statistical Committee was founded on May 4, 1835. Thus, the state statistics bodies turn 105 years old, and Vitebsk statistics is already a full 190!
So that honored guests and participants of the celebration could immerse themselves in history, a thematic exhibition was presented in the lobby of the department. Here, one could learn about the equipment previously used for collecting statistical data, as well as familiarize themselves with documents reflecting the past in numbers. Some of them are impossible to read without tears. For example, information about the atrocities of the German-fascist invaders, where the number of killed and starved people was counted.
– It is no coincidence that state statistical bodies were created first, and only then the real sector of the economy. After all, it is impossible to make any correct, thoughtful, rational management decision without the large figures and information that you process, – said Angelica Nikitina, Deputy Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee, addressing the industry workers. – 99% of the success of the real sector of the economy depends on the complex methodologies, figures, and directions that you oversee today. You fill out thousands of tables, process and verify millions of data points to provide them for assessment and response to various aspects of the region's economic development, budget revenue, and improvement of the quality of life of our population.
As noted by Yuri Moskalev, Head of the Main Statistical Department of the Vitebsk Region, behind the accurate data of official statistics are highly qualified personnel, a friendly, cohesive team of professional statisticians, whose main goal is to achieve maximum success in the effective implementation of set tasks with minimal costs.
– Over its 105-year history, Belarusian statistics has proven its relevance to a wide range of users, and has also gained a high level of trust in official statistical information. The well-deserved and fruitful conscientious work of the employees of the Main Department has always been highly appreciated at all levels, – said Yuri Moskalev. – In our collection, there are many honorary state awards: orders of honor and medals for labor.
Yuri Moskalev was not mistaken; as part of the festive event, employees of the statistical department were presented with Honorary Diplomas and commendations from the regional executive committee, the city executive committee, the administrations of the Vitebsk districts, and trade unions. Several individuals were honored with departmental awards: the badge of distinction "Honored Employee of State Statistics," an Honorary Diploma from the National Statistical Committee, as well as from the regional department.
