A schoolgirl from Braslav assisted border guards in detaining state border violators

Braslav schoolgirl showed resourcefulness when border guards detained state border violators.

At the formal assembly at Secondary School No. 1 in Braslav named after Hero of the Soviet Union A. Zhdanov, the commandant of the Opsa border commandant's office, Lieutenant Colonel Maksim Beytyuk, presented an award letter from the command of the Polotsk Border Detachment to eighth-grader Daria Rykhtser.

The Rykhtser family was returning to the city from their dacha. Near the public parking lot, they noticed a large group of people of Eastern appearance. Next to them was a car with domestic license plates. The border area is not a place for leisurely walks. And the head of the family, Alexey, stopped the car to find out who these people were and where they were heading. They did not answer and rushed into the forest. The car also hurried to disappear from sight.

Alexey managed to detain several fugitives. Upon the Rykhters' call, a border patrol arrived at the border commandant's office, to whom the suspicious individuals were handed over for further investigation. It remained unclear who was driving the car. But here Daria came to the aid of the border guards. While the adults were busy with their affairs, she wrote down the vehicle's license plate number.

“My father and the border guards praised me for my quick thinking,” said the schoolgirl. “We are taught to be vigilant in the border area at school, during meetings with representatives of the border detachment. This helped me not to get confused.”
