In the Vitebsk region, almost 100 thousand hectares of grain crops have been sown
Farmers in the Vitebsk region have already sown nearly 100,000 hectares of grain and leguminous crops, which is 76 percent of the plan. Unfortunately, prolonged rains and the subsequent need for drying of waterlogged soil have affected the overall pace of spring field work. For almost two weeks, seeders could not go into the fields, and currently, despite the early start of sowing, farmers have fallen behind schedule – slightly behind last year's pace.
Nevertheless, as reported by the Committee for Agriculture and Food of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, over 15.5 thousand hectares of rapeseed (72.4 percent), about 70 percent of corn for grain, and more than 87 percent of flax have already been sown.
Vegetable growers are also actively working: 220 hectares of sugar beet have been planted, and potato planting has begun everywhere.
