How is the Vitebsk region participating in the formation of the All-Belarusian People's Assembly, and how was the selection of delegate candidates carried out?
These and other issues were discussed at a press conference with the participation of Dmitry Demidov, Chairman of the Regional Council of Deputies, Marina Novitskaya, Head of the Main Department of Ideological Work and Youth Affairs of the Regional Executive Committee, Vadim Gigin, Deputy of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, Gennady Egorov, Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Coordination Council of Public Associations and Political Parties, Deputy Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Public Association "Belaya Rus", and others.
– We must realize that this year a key event in the political sphere of our society will take place, because the VII All-Belarusian People's Assembly will be historic without any exaggeration, – noted Dmitry Demidov. – The composition of the All-Belarusian People's Assembly is currently being formed. The Constitution and the Law on the All-Belarusian People's Assembly define the regulations for holding this event, the number of participants, and the procedure for nominating candidates to the supreme body of people's power in our country. The strategic, key powers of the All-Belarusian People's Assembly have been defined, which concern the foundations of our country's development, military doctrine and national security, and socio-economic development. The powers of the All-Belarusian People's Assembly include the annulment of any legal act and the issuance of decisions that are binding on all state bodies and officials of our country.
I would like to remind you that the first All-Belarusian People's Assembly was held in 1996, when our leader Alexander Lukashenko initiated its holding in a difficult political situation, during the most challenging trials that our people had to go through.
History shows that if we had taken a different direction at that moment, succumbed to the temptations coming from the West, liberal values and ideas, we would not have preserved our economic and industrial potential, as happened with some countries in the post-Soviet space. In the political and spiritual-moral sphere, there were very serious challenges, nationalist movements were very active – on the verge of sliding into Nazism. It was very important for the President at that time to have the support of the people, the Belarusian people, which is why this path of implementing the will of the people, true people's power, was chosen. The absolute majority of the participants of the First All-Belarusian People's Congress supported the President, and this support gave Alexander Grigoryevich the right to speak on behalf of the people and be our national leader, to lead the country along the path of social orientation.
In a video conference mode, the meeting participants addressed the historical roots of the people's veche, discussed the involvement of youth in the future work of the BNС, the participation of public organizations, in particular, what the most worthy representatives of the Belarusian Women's Union are ready to bring to the forum.
Vitebsk region should be represented by 142 delegates at the VII All-Belarusian People's Congress.
